artist statement
In recent works I find myself exploring relationships between colors and shapes and how they come together to describe the composition on any given surface. Wether it be paper, canvas or wood I create a dance session of light against dark and form against background.
In my abstract works I use an array of materials included but not limited to acrylic, graphite, markers, oil sticks, oil pastels, drip sticks and
spray paints to create layers upon layers of color play until I find the “ACTION” in the piece.
When creating my landscapes the process varies as I usually create a small, loose thumbnail sketch in a sketchbook.
When I love the composition I translate it into a larger size on a water based media, museum quality, acid free paper and layout the base values in watercolors or gouache. After several layers have been created I use colored pencils to highlight the details and bring forth the depth in the piece.
My aim as an artist is to provoke thought and evoke discussion or a “feeling” when viewing my works.
Please feel free to contact me with any question regarding my process or available original works for sale.
I am currently available for commissions so contact me if interested in one of a kind piece tailored to your design specifications.
